The next decision for my main entrée wasn’t particularly difficult. I could have gone for their 8-ounce bacon-wrapped filet, roasted chicken, ribeye, and several seafood options. All, I’m sure would have been wonderful, but I was holding out for their Famous Perry’s Pork Chop, seven-fingers high which is somewhat of a legend in the culinary world. The recipe for this smoked masterpiece took the Perry’s almost 40 years to perfect. They start with a prime pork chop, rub it with a proprietary blend of seasonings and then slowly roast it for up to six hours over pecan wood and caramelized.

A half-sized order ($11.50) was more than enough and I thought the seasoned breading together with the crispness should make other vegetables blush from shame. Though Damon’s opened in 1937, it didn’t move to its current Brand Avenue location until 1980.
